When it has a name, it becomes real - Detroit Real Estate - IPS Real Estate“Naming is the origin of all particular things,” so said the Tao Te Ching. (Read the whole discourse here.)

Once we name something, it becomes part of us. It becomes real. It becomes unavoidable.

If you believe in this Taoist tenet, then you know that events happen and no one is the director. We are all simply actors in a scene unfolding before us.

Our job is to play our part and accept the changes as they come.

You can’t change the tide, but you can ride a wave. You can be a driving force, you can have an influence on factors.

At the end of day, every major player, all the Dan Gilberts of the world, are insignificant in the grand scheme of things. No one individual or one company or one country has power compared to the aggregate forces of all and time.

And in the rebirth of Detroit, that remains true. While certain deep-pockets investors and developers can erect skyscrapers and hotels and own whole city blocks, the city has a soul and it will continue to breathe and expand and announce its presence with or without expensive leases.

Our job is to play our part and accept the changes as they come.

Ride the wave. Don’t try to control it.

“If you want to be a great leader, you must learn to follow the Tao. Stop trying to control. Let go of fixed plans and concepts, and the world will govern itself.”
